Who we are

We turn steep blocks, tired yards and blank canvases into gardens, pools and outdoor rooms that are a joy to live in and look effortless.

A small, close-knit crew based in Copacabana, we handle the whole job, from the first sketch and plant list to the last sandstone step. You deal with one team who knows your project inside out.

Every space starts with how you actually live. Somewhere to swim, somewhere to gather round the fire, somewhere for the kids to run. Then we finish it properly, with planting chosen to thrive in coastal conditions.

The brief

A steep, open block with big views and no usable outdoor space. The owners wanted room to swim, entertain and garden without fighting the slope.

What we built

Hand-placed sandstone terraces, a pool lawn with glass fencing, post-and-rail fencing, irrigation and a driveway planted out with Italian cypress and natives.

The result

Every level now has a job, the soil stays put in heavy rain, and the whole property reads as one calm, considered landscape.

What we do

Everything outside, under one roof.

Planting a tree, building a concrete pool or reshaping the whole block. We design it, build it and look after it, so nothing falls between trades.

Kind words

Neighbours talk. Here's what they say.

“Our garden was unusable because of a steep slope. The team reimagined it into two beautiful levelled areas, one with a pool, and the attention to detail was outstanding. It far exceeded our expectations.”

The team

Two south-east London lads, one Coast crew.

Chris runs the business and still turns up on site. Alex keeps every project, supplier and timeline on track. Together they lead a tight, friendly crew that treats every backyard like their own.

Chris Keys, director of Key Landscaping
Director & founder

Chris Keys

Chris picked up his first shovel at 15, apprenticed with Hamilton Landscapes in Blackheath, then worked for Plant Trap before moving to Australia. A few years building landscapes and pools later, he started Key Landscaping in 2016.

Clients describe him as organised, clear and straight with them on cost. Off the tools it's football, golf, camping and fishing, always chasing the one that got away.

What landscaping services do you offer?

Garden design, planting and our own tree and plant supply, custom concrete pools (fibreglass on request), decking and pergolas, retaining walls, stonework, paving, fencing and screens, firepits and BBQ areas, irrigation, StoneSet surfaces and ongoing maintenance.

Do you design the garden as well as build it?

Yes. We create custom designs around your property, colour palette and lifestyle, and we're happy to work alongside your own designer or architect too.

Can you help me choose plants?

Absolutely. We keep a range of healthy plants and trees and will recommend species that suit your aspect, soil and the coastal climate, so your garden thrives rather than survives.

Do you look after gardens once they're finished?

We do. Ongoing care includes lawn work, pruning, feeding, irrigation checks and seasonal care to keep everything looking its best.

Is irrigation worth it?

For most gardens, yes. A well-designed system puts water exactly where plants need it, cuts waste and saves you hours of hand watering through a Coast summer.

What makes Key Landscaping different?

One experienced crew from design to handover, a director who still turns up on site, one point of contact in Alex, and plants from our own stock. Our 5-star reviews say the rest.
